Issues: Our Education
 
As Oregon State Treasurer I will champion investment in our schools and will help families save for college. Every Oregonian should have opportunities to increase their financial skills to improve their future.
 

  Support school funding through the careful management of resources that benefit the Common School Fund.
     
  Help families save for college by expanding Oregon's 529 College Savings Network.
     
  Return unclaimed property to rightful owners and heirs by improving and marketing the Unclaimed Properties Division website to make it more user friendly.  I will declare one month a year as “Stake Your Claim” month to increase awareness.  In addition, I will work with the National Association of State Treasurers to encourage the federal government to release $15 billion of unredeemed U.S. Savings Bonds to the federal unclaimed property division.
     
  Teach financial literacy to help Oregonians make sound decisions and invest in themselves.  Expand educational programs offered by the State Treasurer by partnering with non-profit organizations and businesses including information on home buying, credit reports, credit cards, payday loans and sub-prime loans.
