State senator and nominee for state treasurer
Ben Westlund (D-Tumalo) was invited by presidential candidate U.S. Sen.
Barack Obama (D-Ill.) to help administer the Democratic National Convention.
According to the Westlund campaign, Oregon Democratic Party chair Meredith
Wood Smith told the campaign last week that Obama personally asked that
Westlund be given a seat on the Convention Rules Committee, which oversees
the rules and the agenda of the convention.
"The nomination of Barack Obama is a historic event," said Westlund. "It is
an honor to participate in helping nominating our next President."
The Democratic National Convention will be held in Denver from August 25-28.
PolitickerOR.com will offer on-site coverage of the Democratic convention
and the Republican National Convention in St. Paul.
